Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
