Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were notified by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.

An important official said the attack made him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
